Penang Flora Festival 2013

Horticulture enthusiasts can look forward to the next Penang Floral Festival with the theme ‘Penang Floral Paradise’ happening in early June with showcases of decorated plants and trees at an exhibition as well as the sales of various plants and gardening equipment. A competition for Bonsai, Orchid plants and potted plants will also be held prior to the festival and the winning entries will be placed at the venue as part of the exhibition.
Aside from that, the Friends of Penang Botanic Gardens Society will also be organizing an anti-food waste campaign in conjunction with World Environment Day during the festival. The theme for this campaign is ‘Think.Eat.Save’ and the aim is to encourage visitors to reduce their carbon footprints by reducing food waste and recycling and re-growing kitchen scraps. The activities include an exhibition and specimen display or regrown vegetables, pledges and also a talk and demo on 5 June with the topics “Re-grow Your Kitchen Scraps and Composting” and “How to Reuse Leftover Food”.
The festival is organized by the Penang State Tourism Development & Culture Committee, Penang Art Society, FOMOS, Penag Floral Art Society, Malayan Nature Society and Friends of Botanic Gardens. For more information, please contact Penang Botanic Gardens at 04-227 0428/04-228 4124.
